Apple Blackberry Crisp
Apple Blackberry Crisp is the kind of dessert that feels like home. Whether you’re serving it for a dessert or as a brunch or breakfast dish, it’s a reliable recipe that never disappoints.

The combination of sweet, soft apples and tart blackberries creates a perfect balance, while the crunchy oat topping adds just the right crisp to the recipe. It’s simple to make, uses pantry staples, and fills your kitchen with a warm, spiced aroma as it bakes.

When to Make Fruit Crisps
This dessert is perfect whenever you have fresh blackberries on hand. You don’t need a lot of berries, so even if your patch is only lightly producing OR you can only find small amounts in the store you can make this easy crisp.
Why Is It a Crisp and Not a Crumble?
Crisps and crumbles are very similar fruit-based desserts. Crumbles have a crumbly flour-based topping, almost like a soft cookie topping. Crisps have the same type of topping but with oats added, which adds a crispy bite to the dessert.

What You Need To Make This Crisp
Besides the fruit, most of the ingredients are basic pantry staples, which means you can make this any time you have the fruit.
- apples
- blackberries
- granulated sugar
- all-purpose flour
- brown sugar (Need a sugar swap? These work great)
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- lemon juice
- oats
- butter
- salt
Change It Up
It’s easy to use different fruits in this crisp. Try swapping blackberries for raspberries, blueberries, or a mix of any of the berries or all three.
Crisps also taste great with chopped nuts added to the topping after you’ve used the pastry blender. Just chop them separately and stir into the topping before adding to the fruit. Try walnuts, pecans or even almonds.

How to Store
Leftovers can be covered and stored in the fridge for up to 4 days. To reheat, warm in a 350°F oven for about 10 minutes or microwave in short bursts until heated. You don’t have to reheat it, and it’s delicious, hot or cold. But warm crisps with cold ice cream are a dreamy combination.
