Ingredients for Cabbage Roll Soup.

What You Need For Cabbage Rolls Soup

Whether you’ve just harvested your garden or filled the fridge with fresh vegetables at the store this recipe really doesn’t call for anything special.

  • lean ground beef
  • onion
  • oregano
  • cabbage
  • diced tomatoes
  • tomato sauce
  • salt
  • pepper
  • 32 oz beef broth store-bought or homemade beef broth
  • Minute rice

To Brown the Beef or Not Brown The Beef?

The slow cooker is made for dropping in raw ingredients and letting them cook. WIth beef, especially ground beef, if you have time to brown it, it elevates the flavor.

If you don’t have time to brown it, no worries; you can just toss it with all the ingredients.

Homemade Beef Broth or Store Bought?

If you’ve made homemade beef broth, then by all means, use it! Or stock. Read my whole post on making homemade beef broth. It’s an easy process!

One tip on making the broth? Toss everything in the slow cooker overnight, and you hardly have to work to make it. It makes itself!

What To Serve With Cabbage Roll Soup

Classic Buttermilk Biscuits are one of the best accompaniments to this soup! They’re perfect for dipping and soaking up soup.

But if biscuits aren’t your thing try this easy Peasant Bread recipe! Or if crusty artisan bread is more your style then try Quick Dutch Oven Bread. Both of these bread recipes are perfect for dipping as well.

And if you have oyster crackers on hand why not whip up these spicy oyster crackers? Of course even just saltines are good too!
